Switzerland Revamping their E-commerce VAT Rules in 2025
Starting January next year The Swiss VAT rules for e-commerce are introducing “the deemed supplier model” for digital platforms.
This means the electronic sales platform companies (for example Amazon) become “deemed suppliers” and take over responsibilities to supply information upon request by the Swiss Federal Tax Administration (SFTA). So if you are a U.S. company selling goods on a digital platform next year to Swiss consumers you most likely do not need to register for VAT or report the VAT; instead the marketplace becomes liable for collecting and reporting VAT on your goods.
This rule is already applicable in other European countries, such as the EU Member States and the UK. It is very important to reach out to one of our VAT experts for a complimentary VAT chat – we want to make sure you set up VAT correctly with your marketplace.
